I've always enjoyed Guild Wars, but the fickle nature of much of the player base has always annoyed me. I love the travel, love the world, love the combat, love the grouping (especially with the mercenaries so I don't have to wait around for a group!).

All in all it's just a great game to play when you're not sure how much time you're gonna have to devote to a game. Mercs don't care when you afk, and hardly any mobs path :D

Not sure why I'm talking about GW so much, but I feel like that game got the short end of the stick compared to WoW and EQ2 and I need to get my plugs in!

One of the things that I absolutely hated about World of Warcraft, like you, was the endless grind without any reward. At least Deeds give you special titles and abilities.

I only played LOTRO to level 10 in the beta, but it hooked me in a more immediate way than World of Warcraft did. The graphics are also far better than WoW, which is looking dated, even compared to Guild Wars, which was released several months after World of Warcraft.

The way you've put it, that you enjoy the game for various reasons but aren't exactly in love with it, is such an accurate summary!

It's definitely a great game and you can tell that the developers really put their own love into making it the best it can be, but there's just nothing new in it. I have friends playing it, so I think I'll be able to stick with it until the "next new thing", but it just feels like a bridge or something.

Thanks for the compliments and hopefully I'll keep writing enough interesting things on here to make people want to come back! :D

I really enjoy LOTRO for pretty much the same reasons you stated, but I've failed to really fall in love with the game, I find I don't really want to play LOTRO, its just something I do when I have nothing more important going on. I find a lot of people I talk to are the same way. They like the game, but feel no passion or engagement from the game. I am interested to see how you will fare with LOTRO, also good job with the site I'm loving it.
