You are correct. If you fail a mission in GW or if you leave the mission, you will not get any loot. If you disconnect and re-connect, however, I am unsure about whether you still get the loot you missed whilst you were away. My guess is that you do get it.

I wonder if that feature is engineered for a specific purpose?

Then again, I don’t remember this loot claim feature existing at all during the beginning of the game’s life cycle. Is it a recent edition? Maybe they added it for convenience rather than for some specific purpose.

Haha, anyway, I think it’s an interesting feature. Not having to worry about loot is always a good thing in my opinion.

The loot distribution system has been in place since the game’s release. It is a cool system, and it definitely does a solid job of promoting gameplay over loot ninja activities.

Also, it fosters a communicative atmosphere, since you can see what items group members pick up in the game window. Statements such as, “hey, are you going to use that ____ ?” are common. Then people in the group actually begin speaking to each other (ridiculous, I know), and relationships can be built.

The loot window is definitely not available if you fail or exit a mission. After completion, it will stay up until you close it or warp to a different zone. So, AFK won’t hurt you in that respect.
