I’ve been thinking about cross-system gaming lately after seeing some perky advertisements for games for PC that you can play against people on consoles. I started talking yesterday about dying in today’s MMO games. I labeled it as “Part 1″, though I wasn’t really sure what I would write for the second part. I knew, however, that writing the first article would get me thinking about it, and I would probably have at least something more to add later on. While Resident Evil: 4 is not a new game by any stretch of the imagination, it’s recent release for the Nintendo Wii has stirred up fans and newcomers alike, putting it at the top of sales charts everywhere its opening weekend. We got hold of a copy, sat down and played it, and were just as amazed as everyone else at how good this game is after 2 years.

As one of the most anticipated games of the year (if not the most anticipated in the realm of massively-multiplayer online games), there is a veil of mist surrounding exactly what it is that Age of Conan: Hyborian Adventures consists of. Is it an MMORPG? What makes it different from the big players in the field right now? Is it going to be full of little kids, or can we expect a more mature audience given the subject matter?

These ideas (or rather, these suggestions) were not meant to be retrofitted into any of the games that are out there right now. They’re meant to be addressed by game designers for future games, and it looks like some game designers have already considered something like this to a degree.
